How to create drupal 8 multisite in localhost

Drupal has a multisite feature which means, you can run multiple sites with the single code base, but all the sites can have different databases, different configuration & files.

For multisite installation on drupal 8, I am going to configure the three sites with single code base

  • atdrupaldev.com
  • btdrupaldev.localhost
  • ithdrupaldev.localhost

 Now the question is how to configure it, Let me explain each & every step. Follow the below steps,

Step 1: Download the latest Drupal code and put it in your working directory,  for supposing I put the code in var/www/at-drupal-8

Step 2: Create the three databases from php myadmin or any GUI,

Step 3: Now open the sites directory and copy the default folder & paste it three times and give names as the site name above,
i.e
default = atdrupaldev.com
default = btdrupaldev.localhost
default = ithdrupaldev.localhost

So your folder structure would be like below,

Step 4: Now provide the database configuration for each directories settings.php ,  open the directory atdrupaldev.com and copy the default.settings.php to settings.php and provide the database connection configuration

Repeat this step for remaining two subsites too btdrupaldev.localhost & ithdrupaldev.localhost .
and provide the database name different for all the three sites.

Step 5: Now open the sites directory and sites.php file ( /var/www/html/at-drupal-v8/sites/sites.php )
at the bottom of the page put the site's array to define the hosts,

$sites['atdrupaldev.intoday.in'] = 'atdrupaldev.intoday.in';
$sites['ithdrupaldev.intoday.in'] = 'ithdrupaldev.intoday.in';
$sites['btdrupaldev.intoday.in'] = 'btdrupaldev.intoday.in';

Step 6: Now define your hosts to apache hosts file, open the etc/hosts files.
cd etc/hosts
sudo gedit hosts

And define hosts here like below,

127.0.0.1       atdrupaldev.com
127.0.0.1       btdrupaldev.localhost
127.0.0.1       ithdrupaldev.localhost

After an update, it save the file.

Step 7: Now  define the virtual hosts in etc/apache2/sites-available /000-default.conf file like below

define virtual hosts
update and save the file.

Step 8: Now restart the apache2 by below command.

sudo service apache2 restart

Step 9: Now visit all the three sites and install Drupal as usual.
visit atdrupaldev.com, btdrupaldev.localhost, ithdrupaldev.localhost

Multisite configuration is ready to use. Enjoy !
if there is any issue to setup , Please comment below

Drupal 8 : Link actions,Link menus,Link Tasks,Routings Link actions Local actions have also been moved out of the hook_menu() system in Drupal 8 .Use actions to define local operations such as adding new items to an administrative list (menus, contact categories, etc). Local actions are defined in a YAML format, named after the module they are defined by. Such as menu_ui.links.action.yml for this example from menu_ui module: menu_ui.link_add:   route_name: menu_ui.link_add   title: 'Add link'   appears_on:     - menu_ui.menu_edit Here, menu_ui.link_add: It is the Unique name of the link action Most likely start with module name, route_name : Name of the route it means when click the link it redirect to this route, appears_on :  An array of route names for this action to be display on. Cache In Drupal

Drupal 8 core caching modules: The Internal Page Cache module: this caches pages for anonymous users in the database. Pages requested by anonymous users are stored the first time they are requested and then are reused for future visitors. The Internal Dynamic Page Cache module: This is a key feature that Drupal 7 did not have. Unlike the Internal Page module, the Dynamic Page module aims to speed up the site for both anonymous and logged-in users. How Cache Works in Drupal: There are two modules available in the drupal core 1 - Internal page cache: The Internal Page Cache module caches pages for anonymous users in the database. Pages requested by anonymous users are stored the first time they are requested and then are reused. Configuring the internal page cache :   From the performance page we can set the maximum time how long browsers and proxies may cache pages based on the Cache-Control header. 2 - Internal dynamic page cache: Drupal 8 provides the Dynamic Page Cache m...
